Love Is In The Air

And It Smells Divine…

Ask yourself, what does my love smell like? Is it a full blooming bouquet of roses? Or a mossy, woody, spicy concoction? Perhaps it’s a shock of lilies or fresh lavender. Whichever direction your nose takes you in, this is about to get fun.

There’s an emerging new trend of layering scents (from your body lotion to that finishing spray of perfume) we love, and it’s one that could carry the additional benefit of helping to de-stress.

What could be better than sniffing out your favorite fragrance and layering it up for a delicious, ambient experience that will surround you, your groom and your guests with an aura of wonderful aromas?

Each layer adds a soft, light veil of fragrance to your skin, a subtle hint of rose, vanilla or musk. Scent is one of those things that personify who we are--it reveals us and makes us mysterious at the same time.

Once you’ve determined your wedding perfume, envelop yourself in the accompanying shower gel, shampoo and body lotion. Maybe there’s also a soap or hand crème. Each layer adds a soft, light veil of fragrance to your skin, a subtle hint of rose, vanilla or musk. Scent is one of those things that personifies who we are--it reveals us and makes us mysterious at the same time.

Karyn Khoury, Estée Lauder’s Senior VP of Corporate Fragrance Development Worldwide, shared her thoughts with us on this playful new trend for brides. "Layering perfume, which I truly recommend and which was actually started by Mrs. Estée Lauder, is the concept of layering same-scented product forms so that you get a longer lasting impression without having an overwhelming strength."

This is a key point and one to keep in mind; simply because you’re layering one singular scent doesn’t mean you’ll overpower your guests and groom. Each layer should be a hint, a subtle suggestion of fragrance.

Take this a step further and bring your signature perfume right into the ceremony with an ambient room mist. Or, at your reception scatter candles about the room that fill the air with an unforgettable, fragrant whiff that will forever remind them of you and your wedding day.

Now if you’re really having fun with this, you don’t have to stop there. Bring the main elements of your scent to the bridal bouquets for you and your maids. Design the floral table arrangements with flowers that will give off the essence of your elixir.

If you’re wearing a fresh, happy citrus scent that has a tinge of lemon or orange, make sure your bouquets include a pop of bright yellow and include lemon verbena or lemon thyme in the mix. Wrap yellow silk grosgrain ribbons around the stems.

Just remember, the choices are endless and there are no rules. This is a wonderful way for you to add a distinctly personal touch to the day and make your wedding a full five-sense sensation.
