10 Minutes With: Jennifer Behr

Accessories Designer

Known for such pieces like her quirky, gleaming satin turbans, damsel-in-distress jeweled silk chiffon headbands and glamorous, sparkling belts, Behr is literally heads above the rest.

Since 2005, girls of all stripes--and luckily brides too--have been seriously upping the ante when it comes to their hair accessories and more likely than not, it’s due to designer Jennifer Behr. She gives brides and their ‘maids incredibly stylish options by adding something special to the wedding day look, like her signature skinny jeweled bands, antique-inspired clips, pearl-dotted veiling and silk flower hair brooches. Each piece is deliciously chic-with-a-twist.

We recently plied Jennifer away from her design studio to talk about how she got started and what every bride needs--besides a great hair accessory, of course.

How did you end up in your profession?
I studied sculpture in school and was taking millinery and costume design classes at the same time. I started making headpieces about this time, but it wasn’t until 10 years later that I started my own collection.

What is the best part of your job?
Getting to design is the best part of my job. So much of running your own business is everything else. When I get to sit down and design, I’m in heaven.

What is your favorite trend right now?
My favorite trend right now is colored crystals – I’m using yellow gold crystals and smoky grey crystals and they look so fantastic woven into women’s hair. I can’t wait for this trend to catch on.

Who, what and where inspires you?
Vintage jewelry inspires me. So does Chanel.

What do you love about brides?
I love the attention to every detail that comes with a wedding. It’s magical.

What is the one thing every bride needs?
Confidence in what they are wearing on their big day. If they feel uncomfortable they won’t look or feel their best--and won’t be able to fully enjoy this special day.

Can you give us a Bridal Do?
DO enjoy yourself!

What about a Bridal Don’t?
DON’T let stress take away from the beautiful moments.

What’s next?
Who knows…

Finally, tell us a style secret that can make a wedding look magic. (We promise we won’t tell.)
Here’s a style secret: your hair accessory (far more than your shoes or manicure) will be in ALL of your pictures, make sure you pick one you love!

Thank you Jennifer.
