Rita Vinieris’ ballerina-inspired collection for Spring 2013 was all light, movement and airy architecture. Shown at the oh-so fitting Alvin Ailey Dance Studios in a room filled with mid-day sunlight, this pretty, soft lineup made us feel as though we were watching a carefully orchestrated ballet.

Clouds of tulle, wispy organzas, free-flowing feathers and luxe laces all danced to the beat of this designer’s drummer. Isabelle, a soft slip covered in metallic French Chantilly lace was quietly full of motion and effortlessly dreamy without the volume of a big skirt. An ostrich feathered mini, the Arielle, did a delightful shimmy as shades of nude tulle coupled with bright white feathers that tickled the air around us. A classic tulle ball gown, Paulette, looked fresh with an asymmetrically draped skirt sprinkled with crystal confetti. Echoing the classic tone of Swan Lake, this gown was perfectly in rhythm here.

Layers of sheer tulles and laces gave glimpses of bare skin while softly beaded waists, straps and bodices caught the light ever so gently. Distressed, modern bouffants and cat eye-lined lids juxtaposed an air of polish with slightly glittering skin that added a touch of modern frivolity. Diamonds, moonstones and pearls from jeweler Efva Attling added grown-up glamour and reflected the light fantastic.

Vinieris played mix-master with her modern sensibility and a soft, pretty romanticism that was music to our ears.
