Oscar de la Renta
The Oscar de la Renta bride is a woman who defines grace, chic and beauty. She never makes a style misstep. She has flawless skin and hair. Her accessories set just the right tone. Her bouquet is the exact scale it should be for her dress and her stature. Don’t we all want to be Oscar girls when we walk down the aisle? Don’t we all want to own the deep, knowing sense of style his women possess?
Watching an Oscar de la Renta show is like an exercise in proper good taste and manners, with a little special sauce thrown in for good measure. Each look was executed to absolute perfection. Opening the show was his crimson crush silk velvet peasant gown (a signature look only he can do!). Frances, the redheaded model, captured this Renaissance-evoked moment like she was created to wear this dress.
He tickled our fancy with oversized tulle capes and overskirts, an exquisite shade of blue called Ice that also found its way onto the models’ nails and snappy little wedding suits with bell-shaped skirts or wide-leg trousers. He melted our hearts with the sweetest flower girls ever carrying baskets of fresh-cut flowers. He made a play for all girls who ever wanted to be ballerinas with his short camellia cotton guipure lace and tulle dress. He gave us sensual satins topped with a white fox pom-pom bolero. He convinced us to embrace the bold beauty of red with his finale ball gown in shocking scarlet chiffon and tulle.
There were so many looks, how would you choose? But part of the genius of Mr. de la Renta is that there is something here for every bride. You can find yourself in the frilly ball gowns, the sleek columns and mermaids, the flowery laces, the youthful short skirt suits. Itʼs all here, and all so breathtakingly beautiful that I’m almost glad I don’t have to actually pick one because itʼs hard not to fall in love with them all.
