Oscar de la Renta

It's clear from Oscar de la Renta's Spring 2012 Bridal Collection that he just adores women. Women of all stripes. Rocker Chicks, Sassy Senoritas and Park Avenue Society Sisters. In a collection that could be seen as a dedication to all that is feminine, Mr. de la Renta kept us on our sartorial toes.

His peasant bride was a vision in the tawny silk floral brocade skirt worn with an organdy petal-embroidered peasant blouse, sashed in chocolate satin. This bride carried a basket of wild flowers in lieu of a basic bouquet and swathed her straw picture hat in yards of wheat-colored silk tulle. Her garden is no ordinary vegetable garden.

The de la Renta Rock n' Roller is classically cool in skinny duchess satin cigarette pants with jeweled tuxedo stripes and a fur vest shrugged on over a silk chiffon blouse with oversized swirled organza ruffled neckline. Elegance and edge.

How about his opening look? An embroidered silk caftan draped in budding bohemian branches and worn casually over a white lace bridal bikini. How's that for a beach wedding?

Lest you think that Mr. de la Renta has gone off the reservation completely, he steps back into familiar territory and gives us some of those amazing, sophisticated wedding gowns that are the epitome of an 'Oscar' dress. Fitted radzmir columns bestowed with oversized bows; strapless sweeping ball gowns bejeweled with antique brooches and layers of wild organza swirls; simple satin shapes embroidered with lily of the valleys in wedding-belle blue and grass green; bubble-skirted ball gowns in weightless crinkled silks. It's all there and more.

Never one to disappoint and always one to delight, Mr. de la Renta left us with the prettiest pinks and blues imaginable in his finale duo of full-skirted ruffles and loads of that covetable 'Oscar' charm.
