Hayley Paige’s namesake premiere collection for Spring 2012 was a refreshing, new take on the wedding gown with her girlie and slightly sexy sensibility weaving its way through each dress. Lingerie-like corsets, fitted cutout backs and super-short lengths were some of her pretty signatures.
She opened her show with a full ballet ball gown called Hattie with a handkerchief-hem, organza and tulle skirt and cleavage baring fitted bodice of pleated georgette and floral appliques. Its crisscross straps in front and back added the wow element.
Another fabulous look in the collection was the Gracie gown. From the front it was a seemingly classic organza trumpet with tiny embroidered flowers, but the back showed off a completely different side with its large whimsical heart-shaped cutout. This cheeky glimpse of skin is an ode to the old adage of wearing your heart on your sleeve…but the Hayley Paige bride wears hers almost like a tattoo, sitting squarely on the center of her back.
Paige also gave us a pretty take on the peplum, which bridal (and RTW) designers continue to favor. Her Kiki peplum is crafted from ombre organza petals that dip high and low from front to back. Where most peplums tend to be architectural, Paige’s were witty and delicate.
One of the sexiest, most unexpected dresses we’ve seen in a long time was Paige’s Monet gown. A floor-length, silky fringe covered lace column, complete with this season’s hot trend, the thigh-baring slit. Double wow! We can’t wait to see what Hayley Paige dishes out next season.
