Douglas Hannant

There’s only one word you need to know about the Douglas Hannant Spring 2013 collection: drama. Each one of Hannant’s ten dresses tells its own story in the most dramatic way without crossing the distinct lines of wearability, chic and appropriateness.

Drama comes in many forms. It comes in soft silvery Chantilly lace with a delicate, modest high-necked collar, all wrapped up in bows. It comes in a youthful white silk jacquard with a soft dirndl skirt and oversized puff sleeves that look as though they’ve been whipped with air. It comes in long, lean Chantilly lace with covered arms and a cleverly sliced bodice revealing daring bits of skin.

Hannant also made the case for luscious, printed fabrics this season. A pink and white floral ikat graces a classic taffeta column. A soft mint, blue and rose floral delicately washes color over an Organza Fil Coupe ball gown. Our favorite was Hannant’s finale gown. An inky-blue floral print takes a dramatically-silhouetted gown to a gentle, refined place in structured silk gazar.

Hannant’s dresses do have one thing in common. They share the soul of a true modernist with the passionate heart of a romantic dreamer, the yin/yang clearly evident in this small, exquisite collection.
