Dennis Basso wowed a big, expectant crowd as he set the ball in motion and opened bridal fashion week with a bang. His launch collection is filled with beautiful classic gowns covered in lace, sparkling with stones and appliquéd in ribbon rosettes.
Basso made quite the statement with some of his more fashion forward dresses like the white silk satin one-shoulder mermaid with its supersized organza bloom that bursts with drama from the shoulder. His pleated tulle ball gown with its flattering natural waist was a surprise with a (totally) sheer long sleeve top embroidered in strategically placed blossoms and leaves.
His simpler gowns were absolutely beautiful. We adored the pale pink organza draped mermaid with layers and layers of cha-cha-esque ruffles--wild and wonderful. His white ribbon-rosette V-neck gown has a clean A-line shape, but the chic hem of sharp horsehair mixes soft and feminine with modern and unexpected. Another favorite, one that calls to mind the polished elegance of Grace Kelly, is Bassoʼs pleated tulle ball gown with a gleaming satin basket weave bodice. This is a dress that can be uber-glam or quietly dreamy. The choice is yours.
However, this collection just wouldn’t be Dennis Basso without a touch of fur. Known for his incredibly glamorous fur collections, Basso topped his gowns with short and sweet boleros cut in Russian Broadtail and Sheared Mink. Each jacket was customized with witty organza petals, cascades of hand-molded silk flowers and hand-made white mink buds. There was a lovely simplicity to the premiere Dennis Basso bridal collection, feminine shapes made modern with touches of tasteful extravagance for today’s bride. Bravo, Basso!
