David Fielden

Against the backdrop of a dark, post-apocalyptic set, David Fielden showed his 2012 bridal collection. No matter the circumstances, in Fielden’s world the bride will always be immaculate and chic. Carrying all-white flower and ribbon embellished get-away suitcases and birdcages; this bride isn’t taking any chances, cause today she’s gettin’ married.

Like flowers blooming unexpectedly at midnight, Fielden’s wedding dresses, one after another, were unique specimens of an otherworldly romantic vision. These dresses speak to a woman who wants to put her femininity on full display with no apologies in graceful silk chiffons trimmed with delicate white flowers, draped asymmetrically or pleated with Chantilly lace insets.

The bride who chooses a David Fielden gown is not a shy bride. There are so many exquisite statement dresses in this collection, we lost count. His mermaid in silk crepe, with a deep V-neck in sheer illusion and skirt overlaid in tulle, gets its finishing touches with amazing origami-like silk chiffon cutouts. The fawn silk crepe hooded jumpsuit with low deep front cowl and bare back with lace trim might be great for a second- or third-time bride. Other silk crepe gowns in this group are more classic, but are equally chic and drop-dead gorgeous.

We also loved his floral dresses. Rows and rows of featherweight silk chiffon and organza flowers adorn an off the shoulder tulle gown. Tiny blush petals and blossoms sprout up on clean organza shapes, like the knee-length bell sleeved A-line dress, or just around the neck of a slim fitting silk crepe column with high mandarin collar and cut-off kimono-like sleeves.

Once you get past the high drama of a David Fielden show--the burned-out set, the editorial hair and makeup, the bold lighting and mood of the presentation--you’ll be hard-pressed to find a more vast collection of beautiful, goddess-like and very wearable wedding dresses. Don’t let the tough exterior fool you. Deep down inside, Mr. Fielden is delightfully sweet and loves to see a pretty girl in a pretty dress.
