Carolina Herrera

Quietly presented in a private appointment to lucky editors (like us), the Fall 2012 bridal collection by Carolina Herrera is best seen up close and personal. While Mrs. Herrera is known for beautiful, feminine dresses with exquisite detailing, a bird’s-eye view makes all the difference. Her tall, elegant model silently swishes by, pausing for a few moments so that you may take it all in. The detailing, seaming and fabrics are amazing--we were delighted to have this opportunity to study the dresses a little longer and a little more carefully.

The fact that she presented her collection in a non-show format didn’t make it any less exciting. Each of the nine new dresses were all completely different and would easily suit nine different brides. One of our favorites was the Hannah dress, a silk tulle ballerina ball gown beautifully draped and layered with pink and charcoal tulle. A very chic statement to be made in color.

Herrera is known for using eyelet fabric and her newest eyelet gown is the Harmony dress, a simple lightly pleated gown with a soft blue ribbon tied at the waist. Note to brides: here’s your ‘something blue.’

A motif that consistently appears in a Herrera wedding collection is wheat, which symbolizes love and charity. The Heidi, a trim-cut V-neck gown is covered in delicate floral and wheat-sheath embroidery. The skirt gets tied with an appliqued trompe l’oeil bow, as if the dress were actually a freshly cut bouquet.

One of the most cleverly designed dresses presented was the Heather gown worn with the Heather blouse. The strapless silk Mikado trumpet gown with carved neckline and Chantilly lace applique is modern with a touch of romance. When worn with its accompanying blouse, which sits easily underneath the gown, the dress ingeniously morphs into something else altogether. The skillfully cut Chantilly lace blouse turns a quiet dress into a statement dress. If you’re a bride who likes things on the simpler side but don’t want to compromise your femininity then this might be the dress for you.

Each Carolina Herrera bridal collection is a lesson in sophistication, elegance and beauty. We unanimously agree that this new season has earned an A++.
