Mark Badgley and James Mischka wowed us with their new Spring 2012 bridal collection. This dream team is known for designing the most glamorous, sexy and chic eveningwear and red-carpet looks. They also have a unique talent for turning their brides into A-list style setters. Step into a Badgley Mischka bridal gown and get ready for the spotlight.
Their wedding dresses sparkled, glittered and shimmied down the runway. The Pippa gown might call to mind a certain sister of a certain recent royal bride, but this dress stands on its own merit of fabulousness. The bias-cut silk crepe column is adorned with the most incredible cowl of beaded fringe that sits over a silver encrusted neckline and beaded, fringed cap sleeves. This is 21st Century flapper and you just can’t get more glam than that. While Badgley and Mischka might do glamour superbly, they always do it tastefully and with a refined eye and sophisticated hand.
Clean, wearable silhouettes were married with incredible fabrics throughout the collection, like the short Tiffany dress and its fanciful skirt made of beaded cut ribbons. The Calista lace gown turned into something spectacular with its wild pleated organza neckline and full-length ruffle down the back. The Melia gown gave us a lovely moment of sweetness with its golden beaded florettes dotting a pretty silk organza empire shape.
Their gowns were also made with a delightful spark of humor, taking cues from the inimitable Elsa Schiaparelli and her forward thinking use of artistic trompe l’oeil (meaning literally ‘to deceive the eye’) from the 1930’s when adding major beaded embellishments that masqueraded as jewels and belts. A slinky matte jersey gown, Celeste, played a glamorous trick with its faux diamond necklace and medallion belt. No accessories necessary for this dress, or the Chalice goddess gown in floating silk chiffon with its jeweled halter neckline that does double duty as a diamante necklace.
Feathers, jewels, corsets, pleats and peplums play it to the hilt. The Badgley Mischka bride has plenty to chose from in a collection filled with their spectacular signatures.
