Alvina Valenta

Balancing traditional bridal spirit with a truly modern sensibility is no small feat, but Jessica Williams’ Spring 2012 collection for Alvina Valenta does just that. Her dresses marry the idealized bridal gown with a look that girls want to wear right now.

The Alvina Valenta silhouette has always centered around a fitted mermaid and trumpet shape, with a small, clean bodice and neat sexy skirt. The Spring 2012 dresses exhibit that classic style with loads of uber-luscious fabrics and details.

The first dress in the show was a beautiful organza mermaid, very clean and modern with a sweeping circular skirt topped with a jeweled silk georgette and tulle wrap. If you’re looking to show off your soft side, then look no further. The softness in the skirt and wrap were delightful elements of more to come. Tulle wrapped over shoulders, sheer tulle and lace capelets, English Net overlays, sparkle tulle poufs and swirling multi-tiered skirts, all begging to be touched.

There were plenty of structured fabrics and shapes as well, mixed with the romance and tradition of lace. Valenta’s antique silk duchess satin and lace ball gown has a Victorian quality to it, but the sexy sweetheart neckline and new natural waist keep it current.

Alvina Valenta Bridesmaids

The Alvina Valenta collection also gave us fabulous bridesmaids' dresses with some of the same divine details as their bridal sisters. We loved the looks in classic black and white and the new two-piece dresses, like the black scalloped Chantilly lace bodice that tucked neatly into a double-tiered crinkle chiffon skirt, a terrific LBD option or the flirty black tulle and lace dress with one shoulder tulle overlay. Perfect to dance the night away.

Our top pick was the white Chantilly lace one-shoulder ruffled bodice paired with an elegant long black tulle skirt. Channeling a little Coco here, this is one chic bridesmaid.

Another duchess satin gown, this one in a pale shade of candlelight, was uncompromisingly fitted and sharp with a tailored, peplumed bodice. Its jewel-encrusted bodice and scalloped neckline softened the edges. Our favorite was the sexy organza mermaid witha wrapped, organically draped strapless bodice and circular skirt of tulle with cascading floral embroidery.
