The Fall 2011 Alvina Valenta Collection is posh and pretty. Delicate Alencon and Chantilly laces form sweet, shapely bodices and Victorian-inspired A-line gowns, but designer Jessica Williams didn't overlook the sexier side of her bride. There were plenty of body-hugging mermaids and fitted columns.
I loved the wrapped, drop-waisted mermaid with a tiered horsehair skirt. This dramatic dress was a standout in the collection. Classic modern silhouettes were enhanced with cascading ruffles, sheer one-shoulder overlays of tulle and lace, asymmetric ball gown skirts and even a romantic faux lace shrug.
The Alvina Valenta Bridesmaid has some pretty choices too. Candy pink, deep turquoise and charcoals look sophisticated in silky taffetas that have a glamorous sheen, made for an evening wedding. I loved the crinkle chiffon dresses in navy and soft pink; they have a delicate, goddess-like feel but also manage to capture the modern moment.
