10 Minutes With: Vanderpump Rules Star Scheana Shay

Vanderpump Rules star Scheana Marie married music producer Mike Shay at her dream wedding in California- and she’s sharing all the details! We sat down with the reality star to dish on her one-of-a-kind dress, dealing with wedding day stress and handling those unruly guests! Take a look at what you didn’t see on TV:

What was the wedding process like for you? Was it what you expected?

It was completely chill and put together for months leading up to the Big Day because my mom and I planned the whole thing. Everything was perfect until the day of because the coordinator we hired for that day did not have it together all the way and clearly bit off more than she could chew.

At the end of the day, it was everything I expected and the absolute most beautiful setting I've ever seen! Most importantly- I married my best friend!

We loved your two-piece wedding dress! What made you go the non-traditional route?

Thank you! I wanted to be unique and I love crop tops. So I figured- why not make my wedding dress into one? I searched for months and saw that no one had ever done that before so I thought, why not be different and start a new trend?

You said you had your dream wedding on a waitress’s salary. What were your secrets to pulling it off?

A lot of favors were called in, let's just say that!

What was the toughest part of wedding planning?

The small details you don't think about. All of the big things were easy (venue, flowers, food etc). However when it came to all of small details it got tricky. Things you don't think about like ice buckets, trash cans, extra linens, glassware and so on. The venue we chose came with the scenery and that was all so having to bring in every small detail for the bar and everything else was quite difficult.

Some of your cast mates were left off the invite list, any regrets?

None at all. :)

A fight went down with your Vanderpump Rules co-stars Kristen and James at your wedding. Any tips for brides who might be facing guest drama?

Don't have an open bar? Haha!

What was your favorite part of your wedding?

I can't pick just one. Top 5 would be...

  • The first look at each other when I walked down the aisle
  • Our personal vows
  • The KISS obviously
  • Our first dance
  • The father daughter dance.

Is there anything that the viewers missed that you wish they had seen?

Basically everything! I wish the viewers got to see our personal vows, the father daughter dance and just a lot of special moments that are on our personal video that didn't make the show. Obviously the episodes weren't just centered around me, so there were a ton of things left out which was quite disappointing. The difference between our video and the episode is our video highlighted every single look, smile, dance and kiss.... The show left a lot of that out and showed what went wrong instead of all that went right!

Looking back is there anything you would have changed?

I would've hired a different coordinator who could've done her job and I think I would've tried to just breathe a little more. The things that went wrong are so minuscule to all of the things that went right. I hate that I freaked out as much as I did about music and certain things but I just wanted my day to be perfect and I think that ANY bride would understand.

What’s the best piece of advice you can give our brides-to-be?

Just breathe! Remember that this day is all about the love between you and your husband. Nothing else matters!!
