Bride of the Week: Rachel Backoff Fiorello
After a surprise marriage proposal at one of her favorite restaurants, Rachel Backoff Fiorello immediately began planning a gray and lavender wedding in Florida for 180 guests. Rachel and her husband Matt chose an outdoor venue at the W Hotel, Fort Lauderdale overlooking the ocean. "I knew I wanted our wedding to be in a hotel so our guests could make an entire weekend of it and walk right up to their rooms."
Rachel's wedding ceremony and indoor reception were all about the details. During the planning process, the bride asked guests which song they danced to at their wedding and played them as they waited for the ceremony to start with champagne in hand. Childhood pictures of Rachel and Matt hung from wedding chairs that lined the aisle. When it came time to exchange vows, the best man flipped a coin to see who would recite first.
The wedding reception had a traveling theme, as the bride and groom are quite the jetsetters. Instead of numbers, tables were named after various cities the bride and groom had traveled to and shaped as luggage tags, each with a photo of the bride and groom in that locale on the back. To top it off, guests were given cupcakes (one of Rachel's favorite obsessions) as sweet parting gifts.
