Ask Colin: Inspiration & Details

For a simple yet elegant centerpiece, line glass containers with green cellophane then fill with green and white orchids.

Could you give me some ideas for table settings with the following colors: apple green, cream, ivory, white and silver? (I don't want to go over the top with the colors, simple and elegant.) The tables are rectangular seating, 10-12 people at a table. I would like to have clean-cut settings (square chargers). Mike and I don't want to sit at a main table, but how do we decide which table we must sit at? So difficult. Look forward to hearing from you!

Why don't you start with a neutral background, like a base color cloth that is oatmeal or ivory? A celery runner with matching napkins will do the trick. Print the menu the same color with ivory lettering. Each guest’s name could be printed in the celery ink on an ivory bellyband wrapped around the napkin.

For flowers, what about two types of containers?  One type could be boxes covered in interesting fabrics and the other could be clear glass containers lined with light green cellophane and foil paper. The effect is really cool and easy to do. For flower colors, keep it all white and green. For example: spider mums in one container, white garden roses in another; green orchids in one, the bright green fynbos in another. Finish these off with hundreds of mint green votives down the tables. It will look amazing.

If you don’t want a main table, no worries. Sit where you want; it’s your wedding.  Choose your favorite friends and family, but remember it is important to make the rounds to each table together and greet each guest. It’s always important to be a gracious host!
