Color Me Ocean
Let the waves carry you to wedding paradise.
A bright mix of blue, green and turquoise hues inspires thoughts of warm, tropical islands with sandy beaches. Wedding décor in these colors is fun and playful, whether it’s a casual seaside ceremony or a more formal event with a chic, glowing after-party. With a range of shades from deep teal to robin’s egg, the color combination is up to you, as long as it’s blue.
Set the Scene
Teal and turquoise become glamorous and elegant with a metallic finish. Include touches of glass, white and silver to add extra brightness and shine to the table. For a casual, fresh celebration, include hints of lime green for an extra touch of brightness. Cymbidium orchids and green carnations add a vibrant layer to a table dressed in light blue and teal. Mix in white and light green candles for a little romance. Or, forgo the flowers and mix and match dishes, glassware and linens in light blue, teal and green to bring the sea to your table.
If you find yourself by the beach, embrace nature’s bounty. Clear blue chargers pop on white linens, while a natural centerpiece of shells and loose blooms creates a relaxed yet elegant feel. For a more formal table, scatter sea glass on an all-white table topped with centerpieces of roses, hydrangeas and lisianthus. Square plates and modern glassware adds a crisp finishing touch. If your color scheme is more neutral, centerpieces of green and white ranunculus and hydrangeas in shades of blue will add a nautical New England feel. Use lighting in ocean-inspired hues to add a layer of color while still keeping the décor natural, simple and fresh.
Whether you’re on the beach or completely land-locked, saturated ocean hues are a fun way to signal that it’s time to party. Outfit a lounge area in a mix of pillows, from iridescent satin to wild blue and green prints. Kick your arrangements up a notch with leaves and flowers sprinkled with matching glitter. And don’t forget the candles for a sexy, dance-all-night glow. Cut the rich color scheme with white lounge seating. Glowing white tables and pod seating complete the festive décor.
Carry an ocean theme through to your cake with teal coral decorations against white fondant. Scattered sea glass and tiny shells complete the under the sea look, while a cuff of peonies brings the cake back to shore.
For a more modern event, touches of light blue look chic against ruffle and pearl details. Top it off with a pink sugar peony for good measure.
Decked Out in Drama
If the colors of the sea really speak to you, be sure to include them in your apparel as well. This gold and pearl statement necklace with turquoise beads from Carolee will pop against a subdued gown. For a subtler splash of color, don Nina Shoes’ teal and light blue Mariana sandals in Oasis beneath your skirt. Or, bring a blue hue into your dress itself with the light blue tulle belt and train on this gown from Theia. Surround yourself with the shades of the sea by outfitting your bridesmaids in blue and turquoise frocks. Whether in a full-length number with a sheer overskirt from Alfred Angelo or an iridescent cocktail dress with an eye-catching bow by Jim Hjelm, they’re sure to look stunning.
Take it Home
Bring the ocean indoors with registry items that pop in bold teal and blue. Art Deco gold accents shine against the teal enamel background of coasters from Jonathan Adler. Fiesta’s classic Turquoise sets would look great on any kitchen table. For an extra punch of color, mix turquoise dishes with their newest hue, a deep blue they call Lapis.
From the warm teal waters of the Caribbean to the deep blue of the Atlantic, head to the sea and be inspired!
