Benevolent Bow Ties
Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Justin Mikita's Tie the Knot
There’s just something about a handsome man in a bow tie. And when that bow tie is a symbol of civil rights and marriage equality? It’s enough to make you want to tie the knot.
Bow ties are making a big-time comeback, appearing everywhere from the runway to the red carpet to the sidewalks of New York. For Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Modern Family star and alum of both on- and off-Broadway productions, they’re really a signature look, something he’s recognized for and a sartorial detail that we keep an eye out for any time we know he’ll be making his way down the red carpet.
Jesse’s love for bow ties inspired him to look into creating a line of his own, while his love he shares with his new husband Justin Mikita inspired the two of them to use this collection to benefit marriage equality for gay and lesbian Americans across the country. So they paired up with The Tie Bar to produce the collection and selected organizations to benefit, and Tie the Knot was born. Every season, the pair creates a collection of styles inspired by the world around them, from art and fashion to street style and design. Every bow tie is produced in a limited quality, ensuring the uniqueness and individuality of spirit of every wearer.
All proceeds from the sale of each bow tie are donated to organizations that are fighting for civil rights and equality for gay and lesbian Americans. Through Tie the Knot, the duo has been able to donate tens of thousands of dollars to organizations like the Human Rights Campaign and the Respect for Marriage Coalition. Tie the Knot has gotten involved with movements for marriage equality across the country, and continues to fight every day to ensure that every American can marry the spouse of their dreams, regardless of gender.
So no matter who you love, chances are you know a man who looks great in a bow tie. Whether its you, your groom or a whole team of groomsmen, you’ll be able to say “I Do” knowing that these style-savvy gentlemen are helping people in love across America tie the knot, too.
