How did you first become interested in this particular industry?
I was the token party hostess in my family and group of friends for as long as I can remember, as well as highly involved in planning events all throughout high school and college. When most girls were collecting clothes and jewelry, I was collecting cake plates and fancy ribbons. I think it was just in my blood from birth.
When did you know that you were absolutely meant to be a floral consultant?
I always knew I wanted to be in the wedding & special event world, but I didn’t always know I wanted to be a floral consultant until I walked into The Hidden Garden about 13 years ago and I haven’t left since. I just got a good feeling and followed my heart and here we are, hundreds of beautiful weddings and parties later.
Where do you find your inspiration?
Where don’t I is the question! I love finding inspiration in home décor stores and bakeries. Home stores have such an aesthetically pleasing way of making you feel comfortable and luxurious, and bakeries, besides deliciously appealing, are very detailed and appeal to our emotions. Both are always hip to the current color trends.
What should brides look for in a florist for their wedding day?
I strongly believe you should choose every vendor for your wedding that makes you feel good. From the moment you look up their website, walk in the their office and meet with them you should feel at ease and confident they will make your wedding truly about you.
What’s the hottest trend in wedding flowers right now?
Weddings are so much about the couple and a reflection of who they are, every wedding is different and unique. The common trend I find myself repeating is that our couples want their wedding to be romantic. Whether it’s ultra modern, shabby chic, vintage rustic or over the top, they all want a wedding day that exudes romance.
One piece of advice you would give to brides choosing flowers for their wedding day:
I would tell any bride to ask themselves 3 questions:
- How do I want the wedding to feel? Elegant, Fun, Sophisticated, Whimsical, Natural, Organic, Chic or Classic?
- What colors am I drawn to and will I become sick of them in a few months?
- Is the look I like cohesive to with my location and my floral budget?
Oh, and I would tell them to have FUN!! It’s a wedding, not a business function. Have a good time, enjoy the process, be excited- you found the love of your life!
